Fidelis Odogwu, received a Higher National Diploma in sculpture from Auchi Polytechnic in 1991. He is a full time studio artist and was mentored by one of Nigeria’s most renowned sculptors, Ben Osawe, with whom he worked from 1988-1989. He has participated in international art auctions such as, “Transcending Boundaries” which took place at the Curator on Cork Street, London in 2013.
He is known for his mastery at adapting metal to create soft and elegant forms in a way that makes an extremely difficult craft appear effortless. He has said that while other students at Auchi “were scared of using the welding machine, I took it as a challenge to concentrate on metal in order to show us that any of us could do it.” His ability to shape metal beautifully is a skill that he began to hone as a child, repairing broken wooden farm tools in Agbhor, Delta State, where he was born.
